Dr. Nathan T. Chomilo (‘01) is an award-winning physician and national healthcare policy leader. At Eden Prairie High School, he was a standout student-athlete, serving as captain of the soccer team and All-Conference in track and field. After high school, he earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Miami University before completing his medical degree at the University of Minnesota. There, he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Medical Student Achievement Award. He later served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.

Dr. Chomilo currently serves as the Medical Director for the State of Minnesota’s Medicaid and MinnesotaCare programs. He also practices as a general pediatrician with Park Nicollet Health Services/HealthPartners and holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

His efforts to expand access to healthcare extend across multiple roles. Dr. Chomilo previously served as Minnesota’s COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Director and Senior Advisor on Equity to the Minnesota Commissioner of Health. He helped launch the nonprofit Minnesota Doctors for Health Equity and served on the board of Reach Out and Read – Minnesota. He was also appointed to the Governor’s Early Learning Council and served on the University of Minnesota Medical School Admissions Committee.

Nationally, he is the chair-elect of the Council on Health Equity within the American Academy of Pediatrics, was named an Ascend Fellow at the Aspen Institute and regularly contributes to reports and publications. His work has also been recognized locally and globally. In 2019, the City of Minneapolis named him a 2019 History Maker at Home, and he was identified as one of the 100 most influential health care leaders in 2020 and again 2024. The Task Force for Global Health recognized him as a 2021 Global Health Hero, and he is recognized annually as a “Top Doctor.”
