The influence of Bob Hallett’s 35-year career in Eden Prairie Schools continues to positively impact the district. After graduating from Glenwood High School, Hallett served in the U.S. Navy before attending St. Cloud State and earning his master’s degree from Bemidji State.

Hallett began teaching in Eden Prairie in 1963 at Central Elementary and, after four years, became principal. He went on to serve as principal of Prairie View Elementary from 1969 to 1971, Forest Hills Elementary from 1971 to 1983, and Eden Lake Elementary from 1987 to 1998. He was the founding principal of both Forest Hills and Eden Lake, chairing the design teams and overseeing the opening of both schools. He also served as principal of the district’s year-round school for one year.

Throughout his career, Hallett demonstrated visionary leadership and commitment to students, families and staff. He was deeply involved in shaping Eden Prairie Schools, helping to inform the community about  nearly every bond referendum over a 30-year span and serving as president of the Eden Prairie Education Association. 

In addition to his contributions to education, Hallett is a dedicated civic leader. He served as president of the Eden Prairie Athletic Association, the Eden Prairie Hockey Association and the Eden Prairie Lions Club, where he remains a member. His more than 50 years of service to the Lions earned him the Melvin Jones Award, the club’s highest honor. He also spent 11 years on the Eden Prairie City Planning Commission, including service on city parks referendums.

Hallett retired from Eden Prairie Schools in 1998, and his legacy of excellence and innovation in public education continues today. In recognition of his significant contributions, Governor Arne Carlson proclaimed June 4, 1998, “Bob Hallett Day” in the state of Minnesota. His impact as both an educator and civic leader definitively changed Eden Prairie’s schools and community for the better, setting a lasting standard of dedication and service.
